Relocating to Utah

Moving to Utah? Let's find your spot.

Tell me what you love to do now and what you're itching to try here, whether that's skiing, trail running, mountain biking or golf. Then tell me about your job, your must-haves and your timeline. I'll help you find the neighborhood near the trailheads and canyons you'll actually use.

Where to live

Salt Lake, Park City or somewhere along the Wasatch Front

Each area feels different. Here's a quick look.

Salt Lake City

Downtown and the mountains are about 10 minutes apart, and the airport is close. Locals say "Salt Lake" for both the city and the county. Walkable spots like the Avenues and 9th and 9th sit minutes from foothill trails.

Salt Lake neighborhoods

Park City

About 30 to 40 minutes from Salt Lake. Home to Deer Valley and Park City Mountain, plus Main Street, shopping and dining. It's a smaller town, with roughly 8,500 full-time residents.

Salt Lake City vs. Park City

The Wasatch Front

The stretch of cities along the Wasatch Range from Brigham City to Provo. Lehi, Draper, Sandy and American Fork sit in the Silicon Slopes tech corridor. Ogden is close to Snowbasin and Powder Mountain.

What to expect

Cost of living and day-to-day life

  • Home prices swing a lot from one neighborhood to the next. I'll pull recent sales for the areas on your list so you know what to budget.
  • Salt Lake sits at about 4,330 feet and gets around 222 days of sunshine a year.
  • You get four real seasons, from spring wildflowers to fall color to a lot of snow.
  • Winter can bring inversions, when cold air and pollution get trapped in the valley. Locals head up into the mountains to get above it.

Questions to help you choose

  • Will you commute to a job or school?
  • Do you have a school zone in mind?
  • Close to the mountains, downtown or work?
  • A bigger yard and more space, or a great location with less square footage?

Outdoor lifestyle

The mountains are right there

  • Ten ski resorts sit within an hour of the Salt Lake airport.
  • Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons are 20 to 30 minutes from Salt Lake for skiing, hiking and wildflowers at Albion Basin.
  • Utah has five national parks, including Zion, Bryce Canyon and Arches.
  • Fall drives over Guardsman Pass or the Alpine Loop are some of my favorite days of the year.
